The North Shore Amateur Radio Club Basic Course

What: The Basic course will provide the candidate with the requisite knowledge to pass the Basic Licensing exam as prescribed by Industry Canada. The course includes a study guide which has brief theory, procedures and regulations and all questions complete with all answers. Six lessons are presented over six Saturday mornings in Power Point format. They provide the explanations needed to understand the material. Lessons cover electrical theory, operating procedures and radio regulations. A three-ring binder is provided for each student that contains many supporting and helpful documents pertaining to Amateur radio. The Power Point lessons are printed and available at class, or may be downloaded from our website ahead of time. We provide the examiner and handle your licensing application. Cost of course is $130, cash or cheque ONLY, payable at registration on the first day.

Time: 09:00 – 12:30 for seven Saturday mornings, except first day, 08:30 for registration, please.

Registration: Walk-In registration welcome, but pre-registration is recommended to ensure a seat as class size is limited.

Tutorial: In one or two of the afternoons, from 13:30 to about 15:00, a tour of the radio room and the roof top antenna farm will be offered to interested students. Tour or tours will be arranged based on those wishing to attend, and the weather.

Parking: The City of North Vancouver enforces strict rules about street parking; time limits are posted. These vary from 1 to 2 hours. Side street parking can be found about 2-3 blocks away in most directions with unlimited parking time. Parking can be purchased at the Impark Lot at the corner of Chesterfield and 13th St for $1 per hour up to $6 for all day (to 6 pm).

Materials: Download the Basic password-protected PowerPoint lessons. These will be posted on a lesson-by-lesson basis. They will be password-protected.
