Morse code is no longer required. Pass the Basic exam with 80% or better and receive full access to the High Frequency (short-wave) bands. Alternatively, pass the Basic exam with 70-79% and the 5wpm Morse exam for the same HF privileges. NSARC is now offering a Morse Code Course for those interested in learning the code.
The North Shore Amateur Radio Club Basic Course
What: The Basic course will provide the candidate with the requisite knowledge to pass the Basic Licensing exam as prescribed by Industry Canada. The course includes a study guide which has brief theory, procedures and regulations and all questions complete with all answers. Six lessons are presented over six Saturday mornings in Power Point format. They provide the explanations needed to understand the material. Lessons cover electrical theory, operating procedures and radio regulations. . We provide the examiner and handle your licensing application. Cost of course is $130, cash or cheque ONLY, payable at registration on the first day. Some discounts are available for Emergency Responders, NSEMO volunteers and students.
Included are a binder of useful Ham information, Power Point lesson slides, textbook, Club membership, coffee and snacks.

- Optional Afternoon Practicum: Same day as Lessons, except in the afternoon, 13:30 – 16:00 hrs. Informal, practical sessions with hands-on demonstrations and discussions using equipment in the NSEMO radio room.
Registration: Walk-In registration welcome, but pre-registration is recommended to ensure a seat as class size is limited.
Parking: The City of North Vancouver enforces strict rules about street parking; time limits are posted. These vary from 1 to 2 hours. Side street parking can be found about 2-3 blocks away in most directions with unlimited parking time.
